This is a 2 day course held at either Protech Training Services or at the client premises. This programme will focus on five key areas of Assessor Development and will enable participants to gain more understanding of the role and responsibilities of the Assessor and others involved in the assessment process.

1.     Assessment Planning

On completion of the session the participant will be able to:

  • Know what an effective assessment plan contains and identify different assessment methods     
  • Explain the advantages and disadvantages of different assessment methods
  • Recognise what special arrangements maybe needed to make assessment fair
  • Identify different ways to protect confidentiality and how to work within the Data Protection Act
  • Recognise who else can be involved in the assessment process

2.    Assessment Decisions

On completion of the session the participant will be able to:

  • Understand what safe, fair, valid and reliable assessment decisions are for knowledge and performance in line with relevant legislation
  • Identify difficulties in making safe, fair, valid and reliable assessment decisions
  • Understand what constitutes inconsistencies in evidence
  • Identify how candidate competence can affect assessor competence
  • Identify behaviour that can discriminate against a candidate

3.   Feedback

On completion of the session the participant should be able to:

  • Identify different methods of providing feedback
  • Explain the advantages and disadvantages of different methods of feedback
  • Identify how to provide feedback to candidates with different levels of confidence
  • Know the next step in the assessment process

4.   Quality Assurance

On completion of the session the participant should be able to:

  • Understanding the role of the IV and the EV
  • Understand the importance of standardisation
  • Recognise different methods for standardisation
  • Identify sources for personal development to improve assessment skills
  • Know where to go for the latest information on relevant legislation for assessors

Teaching & Learning Strategies:

The teaching and learning strategies employed in this programme are based on the philosophy of experiential learning - "learning through doing".  Participants will be encouraged to participate as individuals and within groups.

A variety of methods are employed to deliver and enhance the learning experience.  Trainer-led input is complemented by a variety of activities such as skills practice (role-play), practical exercises, discussions, presentations and case studies
