Visual Basic for Applications with MS Excel 97
The duration of this course is two days. The aim of this Introduction to VBA course is to provide delegates with the principles and practices of using VBA to create working applications that interact with users.
At the end of the course delegates will be able to:
- Customise MS Excel to their own needs
- Use VBA to create, test and debug applications
- Build applications with forms and controls, use menus and toolbars
- Write code for a variety of situations, using techniques such as branching, looping and writing procedural code
- Write code that is maintainable and uses current programming best practice
Students wishing to attend this course must be competent and regular users of Microsoft Excel with a knowledge level at least to the Microsoft Excel 97 Advanced course.
Course content:
- Introduction and brief history of VB/VBA and why it is useful
- Principles of Object Orientated Programming
- The VBA development environment
- Analysing simple macro code
- Stepping through code
- Exploring Objects (Range, Graphical and optionally PivotTable) - use of the Locals and Immediate windows and the Object Browser
- Use of Variables
- Controlling VB (conditional statements, loops, breakpoints)
- Error Trapping
- Creating Custom Functions
- Custom Toolbars, Menus and Command
- Launching Macros with Events Buttons
- Dialogue Box Controls
- Creating a Custom Form
- Creating a database application
