For Team Leaders and First Line Managers. This qualification is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required by team leaders and FLMs.

The aim of this programme is to develop participant's knowledge and skills to be able to recognise the needs of individuals being coached, develop coaching programmes appropriate to meet those needs, and help individuals to achieve to their full potential.

There are no formal entry requirements, but participants will normally be practising team leaders or first line managers.  They should normally have successfully completed the ILM Level 2 Award or Certificate in Team Leading or the ILM Level 3 Award, Certificate or Diploma in First Line Management, or an equivalent qualification.  Exceptional candidates who have no formal qualification in team leading or first line management, but who have several years' experience and completed some formal training in the role, may also participate.

Duration:

  • A 1 hour induction followed by tutor-led workshop sessions of totalling 21 hours 
  • 2 hours tutorial support
  • The unit titles to be covered together with their learning outcomes are shown overleaf

Assessment:

Each candidate must complete to the national standard as approved by the ILM External Verifier:

  • A work-based assignment:  covering units D3.01 and D3.02
  • A coaching diary: undertake a minimum of 6 hours workplace coaching and maintain a coaching diary to reflect on your performance

Progression:

Candidates may progress to qualifications leading to various learning and development qualifications in training, assessment and verification, or to management development qualifications at higher levels. 

Candidates who have completed the ILM Level 3 Award in Workplace Coaching for Team Leaders and First Line Managers may progress to the ILM Level 3 Certificate for Professional Workplace Coaches or to the ILM Level 5 qualifications in coaching and mentoring.
