Word and PowerPoint documents produced quicker and better

Background

Roger Mayhew, Systems, Products & Solutions Trainer, was frustrated by the time he spent producing training manuals and PowerPoint presentations for the courses he runs. His background in technical IT was limited and he had no formal training in the use of Microsoft applications.

 

Training Objectives

Roger knew that Protech Training Services ran training and enquired about a personal programme to improve his skills using Microsoft Office products, and develop proficiency and knowledge of PowerPoint presentations, word processing and general IT competence.

 

His goal was to improve the presentation standards of his training manuals and reduce the time taken to produce them. He also wanted to learn to maximise the value of Microsoft PowerPoint in his training delivery.

 

Roger's Learning Journey

Roger thoroughly enjoyed working through the course programme. The learning materials were very clear and helpful - unlike other courses he had attended - and he benefited from being able to study at a time and place that suited his needs. He found challenges in developing his work to the required standard, but with excellent support from Protech and through feedback given, he not only met the standard but also improved the quality of documentation produced.

 

Roger particularly appreciated the flexible delivery of the course and the use of Protech's E-portfolio, which enabled him to work from anywhere with an internet connection and upload activities for assessment. A valuable added benefit was that he could see at a glance how his studies were progressing, and what else needed to be done by using the built-in progress bar. Roger said: "The most helpful part of the course was the web based E-portfolio, it meant I did not have to wait to meet with my tutor because she was immediately contactable for feedback and support. It was easy to upload my work and to communicate with my tutor so that I was always on track".

 

Outcome

Roger is delighted that his objectives have been met and that he now has the skills to rapidly and accurately create professionally presented documents. He is also pleasantly surprised by the highly effective PowerPoint presentations he now produces, that help to add interest and hold his audience.

Says Roger: "I would recommend the IT skills development course as well as Protech as a training provider to anyone. Few people know everything about Microsoft Office software and everyone has a need to be able to use it well."
