Leighton-Linslade Town Council - Team Leading

Leighton-Linslade Town Council - Team Leading

"Team members who have completed this course are more assertive with the team and also a lot more structured with their workloads".  Rachel Hughes, Youth Project Manager, Leighton-Linslade Town Council.

Background

Phil and Natalie work for the TACTIC Centre, a Teenage Advice and Information Centre based in Leighton Buzzard.  Phil explains that when he heard about the Team Leading course he thought it would fulfil many of his development needs and boost his career opportunities.  Natalie was also interested as she wanted to develop a deeper understanding of how to lead a team and to improve team group communication.

Training Objectives

  • Overall: to provide effective leadership to achieve team work objectives.
  • Phil's individual goal was to improve how he prioritised his workload.
  • Natalie's individual goal was to enhance communication within her team.

The Learning Journey

Phil and Natalie were fully satisfied with the training they received, with all the units being engaging and interesting.  The learning they said was: "informal and laid back, but we still achieved a lot!" Natalie explains: "I especially enjoyed the classroom sessions and then putting what I had learnt into practice."

The training was helpful to them both in their working situations.  Rachel, their Manager, states: "I noticed vast changes with both Phil and Natalie, they are both much more assertive with the team and also a lot better structured with their workloads.  Phil especially recognised that he was not managing his time in the most effective way; he was finding it difficult to say no to requests from young people who use the centre and this resulted in his workload piling up. Since attending and completing the course he has become more confident about putting requests and tasks in proper order of priority."

Rachel also observed that Natalie's confidence improved after completing the course and that she had developed excellent communication skills with the team.

Outcome

Phil and Natalie both reported the training had met their expectations and that they were more confident in areas they had previously been unsure of.  Specifically they were confident that they now had better communication skills, motivation and knowledge of how to supervise in different situations, resulting in better team working.  They will definitely recommend this course and Protech as its provider.

"Through the learning of Team Leading at Protech I have become more confident in my leadership.  I have also developed new skills and am more assertive." - Natalie

"I am a stronger Team Leader and have greater awareness of the importance of motivating the team and of constant communication." - Phil
