IAG
What is IAG?
IAG is literally Information, Advice and Guidance relating to learning and work.
Information is the general data you can gather about how to access learning and work opportunities. Information is provided on paper, video or computer and through web sites.
Advice
If you need more help to understand the information available, then you need advice. Advice provides an immediate response, and provides more support to help you find what you need.

Guidance
You turn to guidance when you need more in-depth help, either on your own or in a group from a trained guidance worker. This will help you explore your options, relate information to your own needs and circumstances, and make decisions about your career.
What's in it for Me?
Through discussing, evaluating and reflecting on personal choices you can start implementing building blocks for effective career and personal planning.
An effective Guidance interview can help in many ways including;
- Identifying barriers to learning and exploring how these can be overcome.
- Recognising and valuing individual skills that have been learned and developed through the course of your life and work history.
- Producing an action plan which incorporates SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timebound) action points to help goal setting and development.
- Assessing your preferred learning style and applying this to learning.
