Leighton-Linslade Town Council- Level 2 Team Leading (NVQ)

LEVEL 2 TEAM LEADING QUALIFICATION (NVQ)

"More assertive with the team and also a lot more structured with their workloads",  says Rachel Hughes, Youth Project Manager, Leighton-Linslade Town Council, regarding the benefits she has seen in her team members who have completed this qualification.

Background

Phil and Natalie work for the TACTIC Centre, a Teenage Advice and Information Centre based in Leighton Buzzard. Phil says that when he heard about the Team Leading course he thought it would help him further his development needs and boost his career opportunities. Natalie was also interested as she wanted to get a deeper understanding of how to lead a team and also how to improve communication within the team.

Training Objectives

To provide effective leadership to achieve team work objectives.

Phil's individual goal was to get help in prioritising his workload.

Natalie's individual goal was to improve communication within her team.

The Learning Journey

Phil and Natalie were fully satisfied with the training they received and found all the units engaging and interesting. The learning they said was "informal and laid back but that they still achieved a lot!"  Natalie says she, "especially enjoyed the classroom sessions and putting her learning into practice." The training was helpful to them both in their working situations. Rachel, their manager, said, "I noticed vast changes with both Phil and Natalie. I have found them both to be more assertive with the team and also a lot more structured with their workloads. Phil especially recognised that he was not managing his time in the most effective way and was finding it difficult to say no to requests from young people who use the centre and resulting from this his workload was piling up. Since attending and completing the course he has become more confident in putting requests and tasks in order of priority." Rachel has also noticed that Natalie's confidence improved on completing the course and that she had developed excellent communication skills with the team.

Outcome

Phil and Natalie both said that the training had met their expectations and that they were more confident in areas they were unsure of before the training. Specifically they felt that they now had better communication skills, knowledge of how to supervise in different situations resulting in better team working and that they were now more motivated. They would definitely recommend this course and Protech as a provider.
