Someries Infants School, Luton- Level 2 Team Leading (NVQ)
"The training with Protech has built up my site manager's confidence and has given him the skills to approach staff situations well."
Jennifer Meara, Head Teacher, Someries Infants School, Luton
Background
Jennifer is the head teacher at Someries Infants School in Luton and was approached by her site agent to undertake team leading training with Protech. Les leads a team of 6 cleaners and had been in the position for a couple of years but had no formal training for his role. He heard of the opportunity to receive funded training under Train to Gain and felt that the Team Leading course (Level 2) would help him to improve his performance at work and manage his staff more effectively. Les had no previous experience of working with Protech.
Training Objectives
To develop Les' leadership and management skills, build competency in directing and co-ordinating people.
Les's individual goal was to learn how to improve his workplace practice and manage difficult staff members.
Les's Learning Journey
Les was impressed with the training he received from Protech and liked the structure of the course with its balance of formal training and on the job portfolio work. He had no problems with the completing the course and building the portfolio. Les said: "I found the mix of portfolio building and the five day releases with Protech worked very well for me. Protech provided very good support by phone and email". Les found that he was able to apply the training to his work place and realised how he could improve the way he was working. Les commented: "My methods and practices have changed since I started the course. For example, I have introduced recording methods so things are more formalised". One of the challenges Les faced was staff management and he found that the team leading course gave him the tools he needed to help him manage staff more effectively. Les believes:" You can't deal with work relationships the same as you do with home relationships and I have found new ways to address issues". Jennifer agreed with Les' assessment and feels he has really benefited from the course with improved confidence and in dealing with staff relationships and motivation.
Outcome
Both Les and Jennifer felt that Les had achieved his objectives set at the start of the course and they are satisfied with the resulting improved working practices and staff management skills. They are both pleased with the outcome and would recommend Protech to others.
"Protech has been very professional and very helpful if I ever had any problem then their staff were always on hand to sort any problems out. Even if no problems I was confident I had the support I needed and would recommend them" Les Shipp, Site Agent, Someries Infants School, Luton
