LEVEL 2 IT SKILLS QUALIFICATION (ITQ)
"You are NEVER too old to learn!"- these are the words of one of our learners who once thought he was too old but now he has a totally different outlook
Background
Tim is the sales director for Unidex UK, an international import and export company, its UK operation is based in St Albans, Herts. Tim had little confidence with computers generally and in particular Microsoft Word and Excel and often had to get one of his staff to produce documents for him; this often made life difficult for Tim. The final prompt to do something was the concern that his young son would soon have more knowledge in this area than he did. Tim decided to use Protech Training Services for an NVQ qualification because he knew a classroom approach would not work for him and that he needed on the job training. Tim had no previous training in the use of Microsoft applications.
Training Objectives
To build skills and knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and use of the Internet for business purposes.
Tim's individual goal was to increase his confidence and skills in the use of word processing and Excel and to overcome his fear of training. He wanted to find new and faster ways of doing his job and hoped that these new skills would help.
Tim's Learning Journey
Tim is thoroughly impressed with the training he has received and he says: " Protech would be the first training provider I would approach in future". Tim was very concerned before starting the course about entering the world of training as he had not done any formal learning since his school days. He asked himself: "Am I too old to do this?". Tim praised the way that the Protech trainer encouraged him and gave him the support he needed when he struggled to understand. He enjoyed working through the programme of learning and found the distance learning method worked well for him. He was able to upload work from home using Protech's E-portfolio and share information with his trainer over the internet. Tim found this so convenient and he would work through his work over the phone while they both viewed the work online. The added benefit was that he could see at a glance how well he was doing in his studies using the built in progress bar and what else needed to be done. Tim learnt a lot of new tips on using Word and Excel and now feels confident in writing letters and producing documents. He also learnt how to use the internet more effectively for work purposes. He now using metasearch engines and is able to search for financial information on other companies very easily,Tim says " this has been a real asset and has helped me in my work".
Outcome
Tim said: "I am much more confident now in the use of IT". He is please that his objectives have been achieved and exceeded. Tim is looking forward to further training at level 3 in the near future and feels confident he will be able to achieve further qualifications with the help and support of Protech.
